What are medical aesthetics?

Does Botox hurt? How long do dermal fillers last? What do skin boosters do?

I answer these and many more in this post, based on my most frequently asked questions on medical aesthetics… from both Aspire patients and Instagram / Facebook followers (thank you to all who sent these through).

DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

Injectable hyaluronic acid  gels to add (or restore) volume and enhance the shape and structure of your face. They can also be used to correct asymmetry.

What do lip fillers do?

Lip fillers enhance the shape, structure and fullness of your natural lips, through injection at precision points.

Where in my face can I get dermal fillers?

Fillers can be used to add fullness and definition in multiple areas, such as cheeks, jawline, temples and chin.

When will I see results of dermal fillers?

You will notice a difference in appearance immediately after treatment, though it takes around 2-3 weeks for fillers and any minimal swelling to settle.

Does it hurt getting dermal fillers?

There is minimal if any discomfort with facial fillers, though I always numb lips beforehand as they can be more sensitive.

How long will they last?

This depends on your metabolism but normally 6-12 months for facial fillers and around 6 months for lips.

 

ANTI-WRINKLE TREATMENT AKA BOTOX

What does Botox do?

Anti wrinkle injections smooth lines and wrinkles caused by the muscles we use in everyday facial expressions, from smile lines around the eyes to frown creases between the brows.

How does Botox work?

When injected into specific facial muscles, Botulinum toxin reduces their movement. This has a smoothing effect on skin above these muscles, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Does Botox work immediately?

It takes up to 2 weeks to see full results from Botox.

Is Botox permanent?

Results from anti-wrinkle injections usually last 3-4 months.

Are anti-wrinkle injections painful?

Anti-wrinkle injections are carried out using the smallest, finest needle. Most people don't find this uncomfortable at all – and swelling settles in minutes.

Where can Botox be injected?

The 3 most common areas are frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines. I also offer advanced injections in other areas – eg to address teeth grinding, sweating, gummy smile, neck lines and more.

What are skin boosters?

Are skin boosters the same as dermal fillers?

No, unlike traditional fillers, skin boosters spread evenly across the face, forming a water binding layer that leaves skin looking dewy, plumped and more youthful.
